It is important to consume electrolytes to feel refreshed, to feel as if your system has been rebooted and to keep it in a constant state of homoeostasis. Electrolytes help to optimise your performance to a great extent. Now, people do not often know where to get electrolytes from or what they are.

Electrolytes are important for our body, they help pass electrical impulses across cell membranes. They help with nerve transmission, cognition, and the proper functioning of the muscles. Maintaining the balance of fluids in our muscles, cells, and tissues are also done in conjunction with electrolytes. If there is an electrolyte imbalance in your body, you may suffer from headaches, muscles spasms, and pain in the muscles after exercise. In previous blogs, we have touched on the individual minerals that make up your needed electrolytes, below you will find where to get them from.

Electrolytes can be obtained from the food we consume. Coconut water is rich in most of the needed electrolytes. You can also make juices from electrolyte-rich foods, typically red, yellow or orange fruits and vegetables. They are rich in potassium and magnesium. Foods which contain a good amount of potassium, calcium and/or magnesium are typically rich in electrolytes as well. Nuts, seeds, and beans are good sources of these minerals as well, as are green leafy vegetables. Not only do they help to restore the electrolyte balance in the body but help to add essential nutrients as well. Foods such as kale, bananas, avocado, squash, almonds, sunflower seeds – these and many more members of the fruits and vegetable family can give you all the electrolytes you need.

We always advise to consume real food to meet you dietary needs, however in the fast paced world we live in, you may find it hard to get in all that your body needs. Naturalyte is your one stop shop for hydration, and unlike other hydration methods; this one will nourish your body with vitamins, fibre and natural energy that others may not be able to offer.
